Race Course: A postcard-perfect trail through meadows, around a large lake, surrounded by snow-capped mountains
Altitude: Approximately 7,200 feet
Altitude Coping Strategy: Keep chanting to myself, "At least I'm not running the marathon, at least I'm not running the marathon..."
Read about running behind "Spurt Girl" at Evamarie's blog

Even the drive to Estes Park from Denver was stunning! |
Day before race, walking downtown Estes Park: "How long does it take to acclimatize, anyway?" |
It's hard not to get excited when the scenery is as stunning as this! |
Morning of the race: Evamarie takes a warm-up jog as runners start to arrive. |

Despite the Weather Channel saying 50 degrees, it turns out I didn't need the groovy gloves; I gave them to the cameraman for safe-keeping. Unfortunately, it turned out I didn't need the long sleeves, either (sorry, cameraman can't help you there). |
It also turns out we didn't have to run up those mountains in the background (whew!). |
The back of the "back of the pack" of 10K runners, just after the start of the race. Good luck trying to find me; I think I'm far enough up that I'm out of view here. |
You've just won the 2nd place medal for your age group! What are you dong next? "I'm going to the Alpine Trail at Rocky Mountain National Park!" |
|
Now where did I put that snow? Oh, never mind, I found it! (Remember this is June 15, people!) |
