Race Course: A lovely 4-mile trail run through the local Cuba Marsh forest preserve
Race Goal: Finish the race, (not very ambitious, but this was just 24 hours after the 2008 Mackinaw Bridge Race)
Race Highlight: My first winning time ever: I took 2nd place for my age division!

Pre-race warm-up: "I can do this, I can do this!" |
More warm-up: "Um,can I REALLY do this? I just ran the Mack yesterday!" |
If I'm to be honest, where I'm dashing is to the port-a-pots for one last pre-race bladder drain! |
Enjoying the scenery. The serenity is short-lived.... |
|
Crossing the bridge from the marsh, about 1/2 mile to go. Suddenly I'm REALLY glad it's only a 4-miler and not a 10K this year! |
I'm only smiling because I know there's a camera a-clicking! Three seconds later and it's back to my tortured grimace |
The home stretch; otherwise known as, "I just don't CARE anymore!" |
"The sooner I finish, the sooner I'll be done" (a sampling of the brainy thoughts going through my head within yards of the finish line) |
|
The final, sweaty sprint!
